First surveys conducted for our village outreach programme

Initial surveys have been conducted in the six villages where we will start the outreach programme. This initial surveys reveal the huge needs in the villages, and problems which are typical of rural India. We are just sharing here a few key stats, and then the needs that the survey revealed.

OVERALL FIELD OBSERVATION

  • Women don’t get proper nutritious food and medical care in all six Panchayats. Pregnant woman don’t have proper knowledge of health and hygiene. There are no proper transport facilities to reach the hospitals or Primary Health Centres, especially when they are in need of urgent medical services.
  • Only one Primary Health Centre is working, providing minimum health care services.
  • Panchayats don’t have proper drinking water facilities.
  • Children age group of 0-5 merely get noon meal but don’t get food with adequate nutrition.
  • Physically challenged people and disabled children are not taken care of in the families and in the villages. They are not given ID cards by the government and they are not able to get education, medical treatment and transport facilities.
  • Women in the age group below 18 don’t get any attention, medical care and counselling. They don’t have proper occupation and skill training facilities. Almost 85% of the adolescent girls are working in textile mills, carton mills and fireworks factories.
  • None of the six Panchayats have proper public and private sanitation facilities.

REQUESTS FROM THE PEOPLE

  • Dispensary for medical services and for first aid in Azhagusirai. Mobile clinic services to Pannikundu and Sithali Panchayats.
  • Children belong to age group of 0-5 are in need of eatables, biscuits, fruits or milk at 10.30 am. They need play materials to play and also need a teacher to take care of them.
  • Training centres for special needs children (physically and mentally disabled children).
  • Occupational training centres and seminars for adolescent girls.
  • Special medical care for pregnant women.
  • Premarital and post marital counselling for the couples.
  • Ambulance service for emergencies in the villages.
  • Medical care for the elder people in the villages.
